A figure: 1.5 MILLION chain stitches entirely made by hand by me Sophie for L'Insoumis - Vintage Corner
What a challenge... I shared photos, videos with you, in any case what a story.
Start: January 2020
End " December 2020
It's long but what a challenge, what a snub I wanted to give to all these machines.
This is one of my greatest works and it is truly magnificent.
It all started after a chance visit to a collector of unique pieces in the world on the Indians, the discovery of a craft as meticulous as my embroidery, I fell wide-eyed into this culture, this craft with respect for the material, respect for the work of the hand and tell me a story, a life, an eternity.
Then the adventure continued with the order of two Navajo embroideries on military jackets.
And then with reflection, it was written, it needed a big challenge for my hands, for my mind, for L'insoumis and we decided to make a Navajo rug.
Fabric choice: 1930s cotton canvas
Black felt to hold the embroidery
100% cotton thread
My favorite needle and my little embroidery scissors
Hand drawing, measured to the millimeters
All symbols are true and are still drawn and used among certain ethnic groups around the world.
This is the result after 11 months of work.
I pay tribute to you, Navajo people.
Thank you for your culture, teachings on the path of wisdom and patience.
She is marked in me forever.
