Sleeveless denim jackets from l’Insoumis.

At Insoumis Clothing, we love the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s period of motorcycle clubs in the United States, these 3 decades were prolific in terms of graphics. At the beginning, the logos were often derived from the logos used by the military of the Second World War who loved to display designs as mascots on their planes, tanks or jeeps. The most legendary example comes from the motorcycle club "Hell's Angels" whose name and first was inspired by the nose art of the crew of an American bomber who carried out suicidal missions over Nazi Germany at the time.

Crazy graphics.

In the 50s, logos were quite simplistic, sometimes just lettering, then over the years and especially in the early 60s when drugs, grass and acid arrived on the counterculture market, more sophisticated and graphic designs came out of smoky brains at the same time as clubs were developing in the USA. In the golden age of US counterculture and low brow art, motorcycle club colors were definitely pure works of folk art. Often, skulls, devils, chopper parts and other monsters with fairly explicit names are used then. Today, sought after by some collectors like us, motorcycle club jackets have an exploding price for what was then only a piece of denim jacket with a logo made cheaply and intended to scare. Our experiment with a fake motorcycle club jacket from Hollywood studios used in the famous 70s Clint Eastwood movie "The Sweet, the Tough and the Crazy" in which he battles an MC called Black Widows, cost us an arm and a leg!

Our creations.

As you will have understood, we are fans of these jackets and for a few years now we have been creating them from vintage Levis jackets that we upcycle with our overflowing creativity, by embroidering with chain stitch or paint and our embroidered patches that we make ourselves. Of course, we never put MC because it is a code belonging only to 1% motorcycle clubs but we put MF instead which means motor family or motor freaks, which allows our buyers to wear them with confidence even if most of our jackets enter private collections because they are unique and never reproduced.
